Given that the theme of the mirror is closely associated with identity question, we wanted to investigate its forms of presence in his poetry and explore its meaning about the nature of identity that the Self is trying to achieve. Whether the mirror in Adonis’s poetry is predicated on metaphor or chiasm, it reflects the Self’s rejection of the ready-made identity and its attempt to create a versatile identity open unto the Other, which is a horizon for a new Being. The breaking of the mirror and even its killing has been recurrent in Adonis’ poetry because the Self refuses the constant and transcendent identity and yearns for inaugurating multiple and new identities.
