Résumé

Critical discourse analysis as a modern methods of text analysis, helps us in a deep understanding of the text and of the links between textual elements. This research analyzes the Algerian novel "The Wind of the South", dealing with social problems after the earth reforms. In this study based on the descriptive and analytical method, adopting the critical discourse analysis of Fairclough, the researcher tried to reach the deep layers of the text, and to reveal the link between power and ideology. The research results indicated the existence of dialectical and bilateral links between language and authority, as the language used in this novel reveals the extent of the characters' possession of power. The rotation system of the characters decreases with decreament of their power. The contrasts led to the creation of a special structure for the village community, and thus could lead to a change in the society structure. Studying the problems of “Nafeeseh” one of the original characters, introduces the addressee to contrast between the city, the symbol of life, and the village, the symbol of death.
