In 2014, Journal of Materials and Engineering Structures (JMES) successfully released its first issue and was inaugurated as a scientific journal, managed and published by the Mouloud MAMMERI University of Tizi Ouzou, Algeria. JMES acts as a forum for sharing knowledge and experience in the disciplines of engineering structures and materials.
In 2016, in response to the submission of editors in chief Prof. ASMA Farid and Prof. HAMMOUM Hocine, JMES was first evaluated for inclusion in Scopus in early 2017. The Scopus title evaluation support recommended that JMES may serve an important institutional purpose, however, because of its poor citedness it fails to fulfill the requirements for inclusion in an international database such as Scopus. The editors in chief therefore decided that JMES would be further developed and expanded to include more articles in order to improve the number of citations.
In 2017, JMES has been evaluated then indexed in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) since June 2017 (www.doaj.org). As a reminder, DOAJ covers all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content as JMES. This will increase the visibility, impact and ease of use of the published articles by JMES. In short, as defined by DOAJ team, the DOAJ aims to be the one-stop shop for readers, searchers and users of open access journals.
In the same year, since September 2017, JMES has been selected for coverage in Clarivate Analytics products and services (Formerly Thomson Reuters). JMES is indexed and abstracted in valuable Thomson Reuters Web of Science: Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). This brings higher visibility to the published research.
In 2018, on proposal of the Editors in Chief, JMES has been evaluated by American Chemical Society (ACS), and then indexed in ACS since January 2019.
2020 year has been a difficult one for most of us; the coronavirus pandemic has not only affected our health and sanity, but has also had a lasting impact on our lives. However, JMES editorial team continued to work and to provide the issues in time. The novelty, is that JMES published special issue including manuscripts of some of the presentations at the third International Conference on Sustainability in Civil Engineering (ICSCE 2020), held during 26- 27 November, 2020 at Hanoi, Vietnam. ICSCE 2020 received more than 200 abstracts and 135 full paper were submitted and 23 were selected for publication, from all over the world have been rigorously reviewed before being accepted for this special issue. Based on their subject matter and professional merit, twenty-three of the best papers presented at the ICSCE 2020 conference are included in the special issue, from six different countries (Vietnam, Japan, Portugal, China, Australia and Malaysia).
In 2022, JMES published special issue including manuscripts of some of the presentations at the fourth International Conference on Sustainability in Civil Engineering (ICSCE 2022) held at University of Transport and Communications, Hanoi, Vietnam on 25-27th November 2022. The ICSCE 2022 had the theme "Green Technology in Civil Engineering". ICSCE 2022 is very significant to the development of new ideas and the promotion of research into advanced in Sustainability in Civil Engineering field. ICSCE 2022 received more than 220 abstracts and 162 full papers from 14 countries and 120 full papers were accepted. Based on their subject matter and professional merit, 31 of the best papers presented at the ICSCE 2022 conference have been rigorously reviewed before being accepted for this special issue.
In 2023, JMES received for the first time a Journal Impact Factor JIF=0.6, in the 2023 annual Journal Citation Reports™ (JCR™) published by Clarivate. It is important to note, that only journals that have met the rigorous quality standards for inclusion in the Web of Science™ index are selected to receive a JIF. This JIF helps the scholarly community more easily identify trustworthy, high-quality journals that have been selected by the Web of Science editorial team.
